How to Trust God in Difficult Times

Spread the love

What or who do you trust when life gets tough? In your family and friends? In your own strength? In government? Where do you place your trust?

God is the only one worthy of all trust. However, sometimes we blame him for our problems. We forget that many of the things that happen to us are the consequence of our own mistakes, or simply a sign that we live in a fallen and imperfect world. In this world, we will have afflictions, but we must continue to trust in Jesus because he has already overcome the world (John 16:33).

How to keep your trust in God alive?

So that you do not faint and continue to trust in God, it is important that you cling to him in the midst of difficulty. Instead of allowing your pain or your fears to dominate you and harden your heart, draw closer to God and take your burdens before him. Remember that you serve the almighty God who loves and cares for you. Nothing that happens to you surprises God and you can be sure that he is in control of the situation. Do not doubt the power of the Lord.

It is also very important that you guard your mind and heart from discouragement or despair. When defeatist thoughts come, reach for the Word of God. Fill your mind with his words of life and open your heart to the moving of the Holy Spirit. You will see how your perspective on the situation changes and how you begin to feel peace when you keep your mind and heart filled with the truth of the Lord.

As for the rest, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about this. What you have learned, received, heard and seen in me, this do; and the God of peace will be with you.
(Philippians 4:8-9)

Do you need comfort? The Holy Spirit is the Comforter (John 14:6). He is with you at all times no matter what situation you are facing or how you feel. Open your heart to the Holy Spirit of God to receive the encouragement and comfort you need in the midst of difficulty.

Another important point to keep your trust in God alive: remember how God has cared for you and helped you through the years. Surely you have gone through difficult times before. Remember how God worked in similar situations and how he brought relief to your sad heart. God remains faithful and will work in your favour again.

Reason Jesus is the hope of the world

Finally, do not stay without acting. Take steps of faith. If you feel that God is calling you to do something, do it. Don’t let difficulties paralyze you, you can still do great things with the Lord and in his name. Your steps of faith guided by the Lord can be part of the solution on many occasions. Move-in the name of the Lord and let him use you to transform your situation.

psalm

But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
(Psalm 5:11, KJV 2015)

Although it may not seem like it now, every problem will come to an end. This difficult moment is not eternal, but God’s love for you, his mercy towards you and his faithfulness will last for eternity (Jeremiah 31: 3). The Lord is with you and he will give you the necessary strength to continue the path that lies ahead.

A day will come when there will be no more crying or pain and the Lord Himself will wipe the tears from your eyes (Revelation 21:4). That is your security. Keep trusting in the Lord and wait on him. Receive the new strength that he can give you and face the future hand in hand with him.

Those who wait for Jehovah will have new strength; they will raise wings like eagles; they will run, and they will not grow weary; they will walk, and they will not be weary.
(Isaiah 40:31)
