Hillsong United Worship Band

Hillsong is one of the most popular Christian worship teams from Australia Hillsong Church, a Pentecostal ministry based in northwest Sydney. The Christian music group has released several albums that are sold in many countries’ music stores and have also toured the world to share music with difficult people and culture. They have done several amazing concerts where they perform their praise and worship music.

Hillsong United began as the church’s youth ministry band and has captured the heart of many Christian and non-Christian of different ages and denominations as a result of the combination of slow and fast-beat tracks in their music. They are well known among the younger generation that often substitutes their upbeat tracks for obscene pop dance music. They have produced hundreds of Christian songs in CDS, some of the songs by the music group include –  “Here I am to Worship”, “King of Majesty”, “Now that you are nearer”, “Mighty to save”,  “Oceans” and the recent one “What a beautiful name”.

Some Biblical Reference To The Song – What A Beautiful Name

This Hillsong worship song has several scriptural inspirations that make it powerful. It’s a great combination of theology and scriptural reference. A good example is the first lyrics of the song “You were the Word at the beginning” here, Jesus was proclaimed as the world according to John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. The second verse revealed the precious love of Christ towards his creature and his willingness to leave his thrown to pay the price for our transgression so we could reign with him. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son” although our sin was great his love supersedes our sin.

The last lyrics of the second verse “What could separate us now” is a biblical passage that proclaims our faith in Christ who has shown us unconditional love and the right path to eternal life. Romans 8:35-39 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

The bridge lyrics are another powerful part I love the most, it’s based on the resurrection power of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The first lyrics show reference to Jesus’ name while in the third line the writer described him as the mighty, the one who defeated death. “Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You” the death of Jesus tore the veil of the temple according to Matthew 27:51. His power is so mighty even death could not hold him down and he rose to live again. Jesus is the only name above all other names both on earth and in heaven. Philippians 2:9-11 “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. All the choruses of the song are full of Jesus’ exaltation, describing him as the beautiful, wonderful, and powerful God.
