2 Jesus is Our Security in Death
Paul wanted to exalt Jesus in his life, and when it came to it in his death (Philippians 1:120). He then said, “To live is Christ, and death is gain.” (Philippians 1:21 KJV). The first part of that sentence has been covered. Let’s now look at the second part of this sentence.
Paul explained the situation in verse 23. He said that he wanted to leave and be with Christ, far better (Philippians 1:23 KJV). Paul understood that he had no reason to fear death. Apostle Paul believed that dying was a sign that he would be with Christ, which is “far more” (indeed!). How could he be so sure?
Uncertainty is the root of fear. It is fear of the unknown. Paul’s faith gave him certainty about what would happen after his death: he would be with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5, 8). He was changed by his encounter with Jesus while on the road to Damascus. It also impacted his expectations about death.
Titus 3:5 and Philippians 3:7-9 state that his assurance was not based upon his achievements. Romans 7:19 he knew that he couldn’t earn his salvation. Salvation is a gift of God that we receive through faith and trust in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2-8-9; 1 Thessalonians 5,9-10).
We would be terrified of death if our salvation were dependent on our good works. Scripture affirms that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ. We can be sure that He will be with us after our death if we believe.
3 Jesus is Our Hope for Eternal Living
Paul said that the wages of sin was death, but the gift from God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Savior. (Romans 6 23). Paul referred to what we refer to as “spiritual Death,” which is living apart from God. Sin is what separates us from God. Romans 5:1 says that “eternal life” means to live in peace and fellowship with God through Jesus’s death (Romans 5). Only if one’s sins have been forgiven can it be possible.
John, the apostle, gave us an explanation of eternal life. John 17:3 KJV. He said, “This is eternal life, that they might recognize thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you sent” Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal living with God (John 14, 6).
Many people think of eternal life as a future life, which is the life after death. The Bible states that eternal life starts here in this lifetime. It begins when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord, Savior and saved from our sins. It begins here and will continue forever. It will continue to be even better after our deaths (1 Corinthians 13:12).
The promise of eternal life, which promises that we will live with God after death, tells us about life and death. Jesus said, “I give unto you eternal life, and they will never perish, nor shall any man pluck them out of my hands” (John 10/28). Jesus is the only one that can grant us eternal life. He is the only one who can guarantee that we will never die, even after our deaths. He promised us that we would live forever with Him. We only need to believe.
