Meaning of Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides with Explanation

Names of God in the Bible: Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides, here is the meaning and detailed explanation.

The Bible is a progressive revelation of God and this revelation which begins in the Old Testament, takes on a new dimension through the coming of Jesus:

John 1:17 “For the law was given by Moses, grace, and truth came by Jesus Christ.

John 1:18 “No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, is he who made Him known.

The law that God gave to Moses pointed to Jesus and had two objectives: to allow the man to understand that he was lost and needed a Savior and show that God is Holy and can therefore limit sin.

In the New Testament, Jesus teaches about the Father, which is not found in the Old Testament because it is through the new birth that we were adopted and called sons and daughters of God. Moreover, in the Old Testament, we observe on various occasions that God manifests himself and reveals himself to people at particular times; but no one can yet teach His Word.

    Explanation of Jehovah Jireh

The different names of God thus appear in the Bible to reveal to us His character and His personality.

JEHOVAH JIRE: The God who provides.

This name of God appears in Genesis chapter 22:14. This is the name Abraham gave to the place where he offered his Son as a sacrifice to God.

Jehovah Jireh means: at the mountain of the Lord, it will be provided.

God is the God who provides. To provide means to “see a need” and to give adequate provision for that need to be perfectly met.

If we bothered to do a survey asking each person living on this earth what they consider to be their greatest need, for most people, it would be down-to-earth things that would lead to a more comfortable life.

God knows that man’s greatest need is Salvation because Salvation is the fundamental basis for real change in the life of a human being. Salvation allows man to regain his dignity and to be reconciled with God.

This new spiritual dimension involves the fulfillment of great wonderful promises and the application of spiritual laws relating to the Kingdom of God.

These laws enable everyone to live a life of power and glory. God wonderfully provided for this need by giving Jesus as a sacrifice for the redemption of all who will receive Him.

By naming Jehovah Jireh, the mountain on which he sacrificed his Son, Abraham was declaring that sacrifice would be provided at the mountain of God.

It was a prophetic act that announced the coming of a perfect sacrifice for the Salvation of mankind.

    Abraham’s test.

Reading Genesis chapter 22, verses 1 to 19, we see that the Lord tested Abraham. Indeed, it was common at that time, and in this region, to offer one’s children as a sacrifice to some god.

It is for this reason that Abraham took the Lord’s request seriously. He was absolutely convinced that his Son was going to die in this sacrifice but that God would raise him up.

Hebrews 11:17-19 “By faith Abraham offered up Isaac when he was tried, and offered up his only begotten Son, who had received the promises, and to whom he had been said, In Isaac shall be named for you an offspring. He thought that God is powerful even to raise the dead, so he recovered it by a sort of resurrection.

You might think that God doesn’t need to test us since he knows all things, and that’s true.

In reality, when God tests us, it is not because he needs information about our faith and our commitment to Him but because he knows perfectly well who we are and what we are made of. As human beings, we have this tendency to believe that we love God more than everyone else and that we are better than everyone else.

The test that God sometimes puts us through allows us to understand where we really are in order to make the necessary adjustments to walk in a way worthy of the Lord.

As Jesus was about to be delivered, the Apostle Peter swore to the Lord Jesus that he would never abandon him and that he was ready to go to prison even until death to dwell with him. Him. Unfortunately, what followed revealed that Peter lacked this firmness in his commitment, for in a moment of fear and personal failure, he denied Jesus three times. He failed this test, but afterward, the Lord restored him perfectly.

Let us thank our God for if He has provided for our Salvation, He will also provide for all our needs:

Romans 8:32 “He who spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how will he not also give us all things with him?

Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

From eternity He is God, Jehovah Jireh, the Provider in all things of the real needs of His creature. Trust Him because He knows exactly what you need, and the provision was initiated by God long before that need arose.
