What is adultery and what are the consequences of adultery?
In today’s society, it is common to observe how things that we know are simply wrong and do not please God are normalized, it is there that Christians must close ranks and not be tolerant because God loves the sinner but not sin.
In that sense, this time we bring you a heartbreaking story from the sacred scriptures where the terrible consequences of adultery in the Bible are narrated, this is the story of David and Bathsheba.
Bible Meaning of Adultery
The straightforward definition of adultery is marital infidelity. An adulteress was a woman who had illicit relations with a married or engaged man, and an adulterer was a man who did so. Fornication is when a married guy engages in sexual activity with an unmarried lady. Both a grave social transgression and a grave sin were considered adultery.
According to the Mosaic rule (Numbers 5:11–31), the suspected wife must undergo the “water of jealousy” test. However, there isn’t a single case of this statute being used that has been documented. Later, the Rabbis established a number of laws in an effort to identify the guilty party and hasten a divorce. According to John 8:1–11, this sin spread like wildfire during the time before Jerusalem was destroyed.
Spiritually speaking, idolatry, greed, and apostasy are all considered adultery (Jeremiah 3:6-9; Ezekiel 16:32; Hosea 1:2-3; Revelation 2:22). According to Isaiah 1:21 and 23:4–37, an apostate church is an adulteress, and the Jews are referred to as “an adulterous generation” (Matthew 12:39).
What is the sin of adultery?
Adultery is greed, even sexually desiring another married person in your heart, or else that person may be single but you are not, as Jesus exposed.
Adultery is a big stain on a person because the adulterer sins against his own body like the fornicator.
But, in addition to that, there is stealing or stealing something that does not belong to you, another person, as well as infidelity, disloyalty, lying, breaking promises, disrespect, and introducing other people to the marriage bed, and to the private life of the couple.
The story of David and Bathsheba.
As the army of Israel toiled in battle, King David strolled through his palace, where he was shot with an arrow by a married woman named Bathsheba.
In this daring story of sin, King David not only takes that woman, but then repentantly sends for Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, to be with her, and thereby somehow erase (as if that were possible) his affront.
A good man has been betrayed
Bathsheba’s husband proves to be quite a good God-fearing man, who is still very drunk (because David got him drunk) and refuses to be with his wife while his countrymen are in battle.
So the king in his desperation, for the sin committed, sends him with sealed letters to the front of the battle, so that they kill him and he can keep Bathsheba.
Although it may seem like a novel of intrigue and terror, this fact is reported in the Bible with the firm purpose of showing us how far the sin of adultery can pervert us, and the Second Book of Samuel is reported in the Bible in chapter 11.

God sees everything.
Obviously, David thought that the story would end there, like all adulterers, but God sent the prophet Nathan to make him see his mistake.
Among the things that should draw our attention to this story is that King David was a knowledge of God, not just one of the people.
Therefore, if we are well, we must ask God to help us not to fall, because temptations will always come into our lives, but we must have the necessary poise and the strength of the Holy Spirit to resist evil, and evil will flee from us.
Consequences of adultery for David.
David was a man who almost lost the most valuable thing he had to adultery, and that is his relationship with God.
Obviously, we can draw a list of horrible sins all consequences of adultery itself as murder, intrigues, deceit, and disloyalty.
But, the worst thing was that he stopped seeing the powerful hand of God in his life, which caused such an impact on him that he expressed it in Psalms 32 and 51, where he was able to repent before God, and God restored, but not before facing the consequences of their sins.
So remember, sin has enormous consequences so cling to God, and diligently attend your battles, because by staying behind without doing what corresponds to you in the spiritual world, you remain, like David, prowling in the palace and exposed to any Bathsheba.
