What are the 10 Unmistakable Signs You Love God?

God deserves the very best from us, and when we strive to give him everything he asks of us, we can rest assured that he will be pleased with our actions and behaviors. But what exactly does it mean to love God?

It’s not always easy to tell if you’re truly showing God your love or not, but here are 10 unmistakable signs that you love God above all else.

10 Unmistakable Signs You Love God

1) You long to read the Bible

One of my favorite parts of waking up is cracking open a new Bible and reading a few passages.

My love for God’s Word grows more each day, and I always know I’m in a season of life where I have His blessing when I eagerly read His Word.

If you want to know that God loves you, check out Psalm 119:97-100. Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long. Your command makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes (Psalm 119:97-100).

Reading through these verses once won’t be enough—I’ll be back tomorrow morning, again seeking wisdom from God. The more we fill our minds with His Word, the easier it will be to recognize just how much He loves us.

2) When sad, your first thought is prayer

Your sadness doesn’t mean that you no longer love or trust in God. Rather, it could just mean that you feel particularly close to Him right now. However, suppose your emotions are uncontrollable and don’t stem from a specific event (i.e., an argument with a loved one or a recent tragedy). In that case, they could be signs of clinical depression—and you should consult a professional immediately.

When angry, your first thought is prayer: Anger is one of those negative emotions that can easily consume us if we let it. But when we take time to pray about our anger instead of letting it fester inside us, we can begin to see things more clearly and find peace once again.

A sign that you truly love God is not only feeling His presence during good times but also during bad ones.

3) You value honesty, integrity, and trustworthiness in yourself and others

The Bible says God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all (1 John 1:5). Therefore, as believers, we are called to be honest people who are living lives free of sin.

Honesty and integrity are crucial parts of a healthy faith relationship with God because they communicate love to Him.

This builds trust between you and your heavenly Father and enables you to build healthy relationships with others. Being trustworthy means that you will never intentionally deceive or mislead another person.

It means that when someone trusts you with something—whether it’s their money or heart—you will do everything in your power to protect it and make sure it comes back safely into their hands. When others can count on you, they feel safe around you.

And when you’re safe with other people, you don’t have to worry about what they think of you or if they will hurt you. Trust makes life easier for everyone involved.

4) Serving God is more important than anything else

Serving God is more important than anything else. As Paul says in his letter to young Timothy, No one who warms himself by a fire…will be able to sit on the side of that fire and say, ‘I am warming myself.’

In other words, serving God is a process that requires no reward—it is its own reward. We don’t do it for our gain but for His glory.

That is a sure sign you love Him more than yourself. If you find yourself constantly pursuing your own interests before those of God, it might be time to ask yourself if your heart has been transformed by Christ.

If not, what are you waiting for? It is never too late to change course and follow Jesus wholeheartedly! When we really love someone, we want to make them happy.

When we serve God out of obedience rather than duty or obligation, we are proving ourselves true disciples of Christ.

5) Being close to God means nothing else matters as much

When you truly love someone, their happiness becomes your number one priority. The same is true for people who have a genuine love for God—their concern is not just about following Him out of guilt or obligation but because they know that He wants what’s best for them and His ways are so much better than theirs.

In fact, being close to God means nothing else matters as much. If you really love God, then it should be evident in how you spend your time and money; if it isn’t, then something is wrong.

Do you read more scripture, pray more often, or attend church more regularly? Are there other areas of your life where you feel like you could use some improvement?

Think about these things. Being close to God means wanting His will above all else: One of my favorite Bible verses comes from Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

What does it mean to delight yourself in God? It means that you choose to follow His lead and do what He says—even when it’s hard or doesn’t make sense.

It also means trusting that He knows what’s best for you even when you don’t see why things need to happen a certain way.

6) You don’t see your talents as all that special

There are few people more self-centered than those who believe their talents are special gifts from above. If you’re truly one of God’s children, you probably don’t look at your own talents and gifts as any greater or more special than anyone else’s. There is no denying that everyone has different abilities, but we shouldn’t make a big deal out of our own unique talents.

The only thing that should matter to us is using what we have been given to bless others. The Bible tells us: And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God through him (Colossians 3:17).

If you find yourself putting too much focus on your own skills and not enough on blessing others with them, it might be time for some soul searching.

Ask yourself if you really love God or if you just love how he makes you feel when he affirms your talents.
Remember, there’s nothing wrong with loving how God makes us feel—but true love isn’t about getting affirmation; it’s about doing what is right and loving others as ourselves.

7) Your friends look up to you because of your relationship with God

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity (Proverbs 17:17). When you know how to love your Creator, it will spill over into everything you do.
You’ll have wisdom when it comes to work, life-skill development, and even raising children. And your friends—and everyone else around you—will recognize that you are a lover of God deep down.

In fact, many Christians feel like they don’t measure up to their families’ expectations about their faith in Christ. But remember, if you make Him #1 in your life, He will be #1 in theirs too!

8) When someone does something wrong, it hurts you personally

Did you see where I found love? Psalm 40:2 (The Message) says, I waited patiently for Yahweh; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of a slimy pit of mud.

He set my feet on solid rock and steadied me as I walked along. He trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle. If that doesn’t prove love, what does? When someone hurts you or your family, it breaks your heart: Then Moses said to him, If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.

How will anyone know that you are pleased with your people and with me unless you go with us? What else could be more personal than that? When we take care of those in need, we show our love for God: Jesus told them another story to teach them that they should always pray and never give up.

Once, there was a judge in some city who did not fear God or respect people. A widow kept coming to him, saying, Give me justice against my adversary! For a while, he refused.
But later, he said to himself, Even though I don’t fear God or respect people, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice so that she won’t eventually wear me out with her coming!

The Lord then said, Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will quickly bring about justice for them.

9) Others can see your faith, even if they aren’t Christians themselves

When you love something, you naturally want to share it with others. If your faith is so real, it will radiate from you. In other words, even people who don’t know Christ can see your love for him through how you live your life.

Some of these signs are obvious, like whether or not you attend church and if you pray regularly. Others may be a little less so, like being quick to forgive those who have wronged you and welcoming strangers into your home without hesitation.

However, they all point back to one thing: that you love God. And when you really love someone, there’s no hiding it. -1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hope, and always perseveres. -1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

How do I show my love for God?

Let us make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. For by doing this, we will save both ourselves and our hearers. -Romans 14:19 (NIV)

10) Everything seems pointless without God.

We’re told in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you.

If that isn’t enough evidence of your love for Him, take solace in Psalm 139:14-16 which says, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in my mother’s womb, your eyes saw my unformed body.

All these things are proof that you love God. After all, it is written in Romans 8:28 (NIV), And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

So, if He knows everything about us—and has created us in His image—how could anything be more precious than that? These things show how much you love God.
