What happens to body, soul, and spirit when we die?
Death is inevitable; it is a transition that every human being must go through. According to science, the death of a living being is the irreversible cessation of vital functions. The definitive cessation of life on earth as the dictionary says.
The idea of death is unbearable for most people. Others do not accept separation from those they love and some do not support the idea that there is a death. And yet, in all of us is inscribed the thought of eternity (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
There is a good an “after death”, scientific knowledge is useless for this purpose, because it is not a question of biology but supernatural life.
Hebrews 9:27 (KJV) And as it is reserved for men to die once, after which comes judgment.
We discover through this verse what happens after death, between the believer and the unbeliever. God will stand on a majestic throne and every human being, big and small will be brought into His presence, no one will avoid His verdict (Revelation 20 verses 11 to 15).
But in the beginning, it was not so, since death was not part of the divine creation. In Genesis 2:17, God forbade man to eat the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But they did not listen to His command according to Genesis 3: 6-7. Death, therefore, entered the world as a result of the disobedience of Adam and Eve. They suffered the punishment of sin by death, along with almost all human beings.
But what happens to our body, soul, and spirit when we die?

When the believer dies.
Genesis 3:19 (KJV) With the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the earth, from which you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust, you will return.
The Bible says that at the time of his physical death, the soul of the redeemed is transported into the presence of Christ in heaven for eternity and the spirit returns to God. As for the body, it is dust and returns to dust.
In 2 Corinthians 5: 1-8 (KJV), Paul mentions his body which is destroyed, but he has the assurance of being with the Lord after his death.
1 Corinthians 15:50 (KJV) “What I say, brethren, is that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption does not inherit incorruptibility.”
It also emphasizes that our current body cannot access the Kingdom of God in its current nature, but will be transformed as explained in 1 Corinthians 15.37-58 at the resurrection of the dead.
For the converted Christian, death is not the end of life, but a new beginning. She is hope and it is good news to know that she no longer has any power over all those who have placed their faith and hope in Jesus Christ. It is a time of transition leading to the fullness of heavenly life; it is deliverance from the afflictions of this present world and the earthly body. It is rest while awaiting the resurrection.
The death of the unbeliever.
Paul warns that in the last days, men will not endure holy doctrine, but will turn to fables as he tells us in 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 (KJV). Depending on their cultures and their beliefs, some give faith in purgatory, as a transition to paradise or hell, or to reincarnation which does not exist. Those who refuse to believe in Jesus Christ have all kinds of concepts of their own, especially misconceptions because they are not looking to read the Word of God, to find out the truth. They will die in their unforgiven sins, and will not return to eternal life; they will go to hell.
John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Just as there is eternal life for believers, there is the chastisement of eternal fire for unbelievers. According to Romans 1:18, a terrible judgment for those who “die in their sins” whether they have sinned without or under the law (Romans 2:12) by refusing the gospel of grace. Each of them will be judged according to his work and will receive a chastisement measured by the greatness of his iniquity, according to the perfect wisdom of God. When they die, their spirit returns to God as well. Their body to dust and Their soul goes to hell to suffer eternally, after his judgment, unlike the redeemed who will rejoice eternally in the presence of the bridegroom in heaven.
Why do we have to believe in Jesus Christ?
John 3.36 (KJV) Whoever believes in the Son has everlasting life; whoever does not believe in the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
God in His love, grace, and mercy, God delivered us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, through His bloodshed on The Cross. He has justified us and set us free from the law of sin and eternal death. Paul reminds us of this perfect sacrifice (Romans 5: 12-21).
The only way to escape hell is therefore to believe in Jesus Christ, for through His death and resurrection, He reconciled all men to God, canceling the spiritual separation which was the consequence of sin. By His resurrection, he overcame and shattered Satan’s power, sin, and physical death.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 (KJV) For if we believe that Jesus is dead and that He is resurrected, we also believe that God will bring back through Jesus and with Him those who died.
He is the first to wake up from death. Matthew 28: 5-6 (PDV) The angel said to the women: “You, do not be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, the one nailed to a cross. He’s not here; He’s awakened from death as He said. Come see where He was lying.
He is the only access to eternal life. If you confess in front of everyone that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God awoke him from death, then you will be saved. Indeed, when we believe with all our heart, God makes us righteous; when we assert our faith in front of everyone, He saves us (Romans 10:10).
John 11:25 (PDV) Jesus said to him, “He that arises from death is I. Life is Me. Whoever believes in Me will have life, even if he dies.
Revelation 20: 6 (KJV) Blessed and holy are those who have a part in the first resurrection! The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and Christ, and they will reign with Him a thousand years.
