Put God first and you can have a life where the blessing of heaven will descend in all areas since you will be directed, instructed, and cared for in every step you take because the center of everything will be the Heavenly Father.

Being in the presence of God every day will become the fulfillment of the word that says: that you have to seek first the kingdom of God and the rest will be added, and in the spiritual and material aspects you will be able to experience God’s intervention daily.

Put God First

Any believer in God must know that it must be the number one priority in their life since it is essential in all the aspects that must be developed.

Both in the family aspect, social, in the work, economic, and even social aspects, the presence of God will be seen.

This means that it is not just saying to believe in God, but that your behavior, your attitudes, and everything you undertake in your daily life can reflect the presence of the Heavenly Father.

seek god

May your life be filled with your blessing, since the Holy Spirit will be developing the spiritual gifts and the fruit of the Spirit, which will make you a person full of the divine essence.

When we talk about having God as the first place in people’s lives, it means having a personal relationship with Him.

Where you can please, respect, fear, obey, praise, exalt the Almighty, and that your paths can be completely directed by Him.

Characteristics of putting God first in your life

The demonstration of having God as a priority in his life is manifested in a real way in his daily life.

Showing how much you love him, how much you obey him, and how much gratitude you have for all the things he gives you, is to do it in words, thoughts, and actions.

The essential characteristic of a person who has  God as his priority is that he remains faithful in everything he undertakes.

It is to praise and adore him in time and out of time, it is to seek him in prayer, to recognize that he is not self-sufficient but that he needs the strength and power of God in his life since it is the greatest delight for him.

And develop the following:

1. Fulfill each Commandment

Having God in the first place is to fulfill each of his commandments, demonstrating his love as the word says in the book of Mark:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.

This is the main commandment. And the second is similar: You will love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:30-31)

2. Put God before Everything

In the same way, it is to give preeminence to God in every step that he undertakes even in the most intimate of his being, it is to put God in the first place.

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalms 19:14)

3. Love God

The demonstration of loving God is directly related to the conduct that the person has with Him.

It is seeing him with reverence, with respect, doing his will in everything he undertakes, striving every day to please his heart.

He does not worship out of obligation, but out of the conviction that God is real in his life and has been created for the praise of his name.

That demonstration of reverence, praise, and adoration to God is intrinsically related to loving and doing.

4. Genuine worship

That which will lead to the person genuinely showing pleasure in obeying the precepts given by God.

“If you love me, keep my commandments… He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him… Whoever loves me will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him. He who does not love me, he does not keep my words…” (John 14:15, 21, 23)

5. Search the Word of God

By having God as the main engine of your life, you will be doing what pleases Him, since it will be a foundation for a full life.

It is knowing his Holy Scriptures, understanding his precepts, and above all doing his will on earth so that when he is in heaven he will be received by God.

“Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name we did many miracles? And then I will declare to them: I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.” (Matthew 7:21-23)

In the Holy Scriptures, you can see a diversity of men and women, who were directed by God and put Him as a priority in their lives.

However, there is a man who stands out that in obedience and love to the Heavenly Father he remained faithful at all times, placing Him as his guide and protector, that was the prophet, Elijah.

Faced with so many circumstances that this man lived, he remained firm and faithful to God, and the following characteristics stand out:

The Prophet Elijah

The prophet Elijah humbly fulfilled each of the orders that God gave him, for example when he had to approach the widow and ask her for water and sustenance, being used as a blessing entity in that home that received him.

“Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, Arise, go to Zarephath of Sidon, and dwell there; here I have given command a widow there to support you. So he got up and went to Zarephath. And when came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow woman was there collecting firewood; and he called her, and said: I beg you to bring me a little water in a glass so that I can drink…

So she went and did as Elijah told her, and he and she and her house ate for many days. And the flour in the jar was not scarce, Nor did the oil in the jar decrease, according to the word that the Lord had spoken through Elijah” (1st Kings 17:8-16).

Elijah’s Obedience

He was obedient in all things even though it could affect his life, as in the case when he prayed that there would be no rain in that town.

Before that he knew that sustenance would be scarce, however, he remained faithful, he did not deny God but obeyed according to the divine plan.

That is why God sustained him when he approached that widow of Zarephath, who gave him food and was able to see a divine miracle.

Elijah had faith

Elijah had faith in believing that it would not rain, or that he would be fed by a widow, or that when he was in a cave it would be ravens that would feed him.

It takes faith to stand up to the  400 prophets of Baal and be the only prophet of God in that place, and cry out for the water-filled holocaust to be set on fire.

“Answer me, Jehovah, answer me, so that this person may know that you, O Jehovah, are God and that you turn their hearts to you.

Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and even licked up the water that was in the ditch.

When all the people saw it, they fell down and said: The Lord is the God, the Lord is the God!” (1st Kings 18:37-39)

Elijah never doubted God

To conclude, it can be said that Elijah loved God above himself, being obedient despite all the adverse circumstances he was able to experience.

During his time on earth and he is an example to follow, of demonstration of subjection to the source of the maximum power on earth which is the Almighty God.

For this reason, we encourage you to remain faithful to God, to seek him in prayer, to read the Holy Scriptures, and do not falter in your daily search.

But that every day you can get to know him even more, put God in the first place, and in this way receive all the blessings that He has prepared for those who trust in his name.

“But without faith, it is impossible to please God; for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6)
