Lots of persons have asked, is masturbation a sin, many young believers also went ahead to a conclusion that masturbation is not written in the bible even though that’s not exactly the case.
Before we run to the answer, let’s look at what’s masturbation.
WHAT IS MASTURBATION?
Masturbation is simply defined as the experience of sexual orgasm produced by self-stimulation for sexual arousal and pleasure.

It is these problems that need to be dealt with. If the sins of lust, immoral thoughts, and pornography are forsaken and overcome, masturbation will become much less of an issue and temptation. Many people struggle with guilt concerning masturbation, when, in reality, they would be far better off repenting of the sins that lead them to masturbate.
Jesus has spoken against lustful thoughts, hear what Jesus Christ said about lust full thoughts and evil imagination in Mathew 5:29-30
( 5:29 And if thy right eye offends thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. Math 5:30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.)
Masturbation does not glorify God, God created us with a capacity not only to be sexual but to enjoy it. His command to Adam and Eve, to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28) indicates that within marriage God approves of sexual relations, and therefore of sexual pleasure as well, provided a practice does not involve a third party, is not physically or mentally abusive, and both partners are comfortable with it.
If this is true, so is this: All sexual activity outside marriage is abnormal to the extent that it breaks the essential connection between marriage, sexual relations, and sexual enjoyment. Clearly, sexual intercourse other than with a spouse betrays the marriage, and even before a marriage it is wrong because the partners are treating too lightly the sacred nature of marriage. This would also be true of two such people giving sexual stimulation to each other. However betrayal.
Stimulation does not obviously constitute such a betrayal.
In light of all this, some guidelines about masturbation. First, within marriage, mutual sexual stimulation is only a variation of quite proper sexual intimacy. Second, outside marriage, it would be entering prematurely into the intimacy of marital sex.
Thirdly, self-masturbation does not necessarily comprise either adultery or fornication because no sexual partner is involved.
The physical release of sexual tension is not in itself a sin and may indeed be a way of avoiding sin. However, the combination of lust with masturbation is a sin.
Jesus says in Matthew 5:27-28 that looking at someone with lustful desire is a form of forbidden sexual intimacy. He goes on to say that it is better to pluck out your eye than for the eye to cause sin. Then he adds that it is also better to cut off the hand than for the hand to cause sin (v29). Of course, Jesus was using figurative speech here and does not expect us to cause bodily mutilation to ourselves, but was giving an extreme example to help us avoid sin. This does suggest that Jesus is condemning using self-masturbation to satisfy lustful thoughts.
God has created sex and sexual experience to be within the covenant of marriage, and all sexual activity outside this commitment undermines marriage’s sacred nature.
Masturbation, although not necessarily a sin in its own right, does lead us to lust, which is a sin. It is therefore important to remove lust and other sinful activities from our minds, so that we may pursue holiness.
Also, let’s look at some other principles that can be applied.
(1) “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). If we cannot give God the glory for something, we should not do it.
(2) “Everything that does not come from faith is sin” (Romans 14:23). If we are not fully convinced that an activity is honoring God, it is a sin.
(3) “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Our bodies have been redeemed and belong to God.
(4) “The fruit of the Spirit is . . . self-control” (Galatians 5:22–23). Masturbation is almost always a sign of a lack of self-control.
With All these said, whatever that does not glorify God is a sin therefore masturbation does not glorify God, its a sin.
