What are the consequences of fornication in the life of the Christian?
Fornication, according to the Bible, is a sin linked to sex and is defined as a sexual practice not approved by God or any intimate relationship between two unmarried people.
Immorality is the cause of several problems, including sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, congenital diseases, etc.
Anyone who indulges in it sins against God and his own body, as 1 Corinthians 6:18 (KJV) tells us: “Flee fornication. Whatever other sin a man commits, that sin is outside the body; but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
What is meant by sinning against one’s own body? This simply means that whoever commits fornication engages his body in the destruction process.
This sin engages the human being in his entirety, thus bringing about consequences in the body, the soul, and the spirit.
We understand then that fornication defiles a man completely, as no other sin mentioned in all the Bible could do. This is how the Bible warns of the risk incurred by the Christian who voluntarily destroys his body.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (KJV): “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him; for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.
Whether an intimate relationship is made while protecting oneself or not, during the engagement, or even away from all human gaze, it remains an abomination in the eyes of God.
The purpose of this article is not to say that fornication is the most serious sin that a human being can commit because there is no “small sin” and “big sin” in the eyes of God.
But to warn the people of God about the harmful consequences of fornication, which today is gradually gaining ground in our assemblies, thus tarnishing the image of the Church and leading many Christians into an infernal spiral.
The Word of God gives a means of prevention different from other sins since it does not ask us to “resist” in the face of fornication but to “take flight” as if we were in great danger.
3 consequences of fornication in the life of the Christian
Indeed, the verb to flee, according to the dictionary, means to move away at full speed out of fear. There is, therefore, a reason to fear when one falls into fornication because it entails serious consequences as listed below.
1. Fornication draws upon us the wrath of God.
Colossians 3:5-6 (KJV) “Put to death, therefore, the members that are on the earth, fornication, uncleanness, passions, evil desires, and covetousness, which is idolatry. It is because of these things that the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion.
There are two types of divine wrath in the Bible: future wrath clearly described to us in the book of Revelation and present or impending wrath. This verse from the book of Colossians does not say that the wrath of God “will come” but that it comes upon all who oppose Him.
All who practice fornication oppose the will of God as revealed to us in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 (KJV): “What God wills is your sanctification; it is that you abstain from fornication; it is that each of you know how to possess his body in holiness and honesty.
God wants us to be able to abstain from any sexual act outside of marriage.
And if we don’t, we are not only rejecting the preaching or the advice of our pastor, nor the warnings of our parents or even those of our brothers and sisters in the faith, but we are rejecting God Himself as 1 Thessalonians 4:8 (KJV) says: “He therefore who rejects these precepts does not reject a man, but God, who also gave you His Holy Spirit.
You are probably asking yourself right now how this anger manifests itself concretely. The answer is given to us in Romans 1:18, 24 (BFC): “God manifests His anger from heaven above against all sin and evil done by men, who by their evil deeds suppress the truth […] this is why God left them to impure actions, according to the desires of their heart, so that they behave in a shameful way with one another.
God, therefore, manifests His wrath towards those who indulge in fornication by abandoning them to their sins and to the clutches of Satan if they do not repent. Therefore, whoever commits fornication voluntarily and deliberately, will begin to no longer regard it as an offense against God.
His spiritual intelligence will be darkened, and all conscience of sin will be removed from him. The believer who systematically and calculatedly indulges in the sexual act outside of marriage will become a slave to it.
He will depart from the narrow path leading to Eternal Life and take the broad path that leads to perdition, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
1 Corinthians 6:9 (KJV) “Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Make no mistake about it: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers.
This Bible verse begins by clarifying an undeniable truth, “the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God. ” Biblically speaking, the unrighteous are all those who have not given their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ and have not been justified by His blood. These people will not see God and will not enter heaven, that is a fact.
However, the second part of the verse begins with a strange interpellation “Make no mistake: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers.
” This interpellation is not addressed this time to the unconverted but to all those who make a profession of faith but who indulge in these various sins in secret.
Make no mistake, my brother/sister, fornication will surely lead you to hell if you persist in it voluntarily because God is not being mocked, as Galatians 6: 7-8 tells us: “Do not make no mistake about it: we are not making fun of God. Man will reap what he has sown. If he sows what pleases his own nature (flesh), the harvest he will have will be death (eternal); but if he sows what pleases the Holy Spirit, the harvest he will have will be eternal life.
Nevertheless, God is ever ready to deliver from present and future wrath those who repent and seize upon the grace He desires to bestow upon them.
2. Fornication opens the door to demons.
1 Corinthians 6:15-16 (KJV) “…Do you not know that he who clings to a prostitute is one body with her? For, it is said, the two will become one flesh. But he who cleaves to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
The Bible teaches us that when two people sleep together, they unite not only their bodies and their souls but also their spirits. They thus become husband and wife spiritually.
When the Bible speaks of prostitutes, it is not necessarily the current conception of the word “prostitution,” which means delivering one’s body to the sexual pleasures of others for money, but the fact that a person can have several sexual partners. , as was the case with the Samaritan woman to whom Jesus said in John 4:18 (KJV): “…you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. In that, you said the truth.
Therefore uniting with a person who has contracted sexual relations with several other people, impure spirits will be transferred from one body to another.
This is how a curse carried by Mr. X can be imputed to Mrs. Y through a sexual relationship.
You should also not ignore that pacts with demons are signed using blood in brotherhoods and occult sects because blood is the symbol of life.
Sperm and vaginal secretions also contain blood that can unite an individual with demons when this one opens the door to them through the sexual act.
To this day, theologians do not agree on whether or not a demon can possess a Christian.
According to some theologians, this is impossible, but they nevertheless recognize that a demon can oppress a believer.
For my part, I would like to invite you to read 1 Corinthians 10:20-21: “No, but I affirm that what the heathen sacrifice is offered to demons and not to God. Now, I don’t want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons at the same time; you cannot eat at the table of the Lord and at the table of demons at the same time.”
This biblical verse tells us that the pagans, by sacrificing meat to idols, thereby enter into communion with demons.
But this verse also does not exclude the possibility that a Christian is in communion with a demon by indulging in the same practices as those who do not know God.
1 Corinthians 6:19 (KJV) “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, whom you have received from God, and which you do not belong to yourselves?
If by clinging to the Lord, we become one spirit with Him, and our body becomes “the private property” of the Holy Spirit, it is the same if we cling to a demon. So your body can become the property of a demonic spiritual entity because of fornication.

3. Unchastity causes us to lose our graces.
John 10:10 (KJV) “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that the sheep may have life and have plenty.
Apart from the fact that he is the father of lies, the accuser, the adversary or even the enemy of our souls, the devil is also a thief.
The biblical verse mentioned above also tells us that the devil is able to steal, that is, to remove or steal what belongs to others. However, you must not forget an important detail.
The devil is not a being made of flesh and blood, but he is a spirit invisible to the naked eye and undetectable by our five senses. So he doesn’t steal things that we can touch, smell or see.
Satan will not steal your car, your clothes, your money, but he will take much more important things than those I have just mentioned. Satan will steal spiritual things that God has buried in you, which I would like to call “graces” here.
God has given these “graces” to all men in order to enable them to excel in certain areas of their lives and dominate certain situations or challenges they will face.
The material things that we can have are only the manifestation of graces received in the spiritual. These graces are, for example, intelligence, wisdom, vigor, prosperity, excellence, etc.
To better understand what was said above, let’s read Genesis 39:2-5 (KJV): “The Lord was with him, and prosperity went with him; he lived in the house of his master, the Egyptian. His master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made everything he did prosper in his hands. Joseph found favor in the eyes of his master, who employed him in his service, established him over his house, and entrusted to him all that he possessed. As soon as Potiphar had set him over his house and all that he had, the LORD blessed the house of the Egyptian for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that belonged to him, whether in the house or in the field.
The Bible mentions in this story that God was with Joseph, that He made everything he undertook prosper through his hands, and therefore all his master’s house was blessed because of Joseph.
The amazing thing about this biblical story is that even his Egyptian idol-worshipping master recognized that Joseph had something special and saw that the Lord was with him.
However, a little further on, in verse 7 of the same chapter, the Bible tells us: “After these things it came to pass that his master’s wife looked to Joseph, and said, Lie with me!
How could the wife of an Egyptian notable set her eyes on a Hebrew slave? Simply because of the divine favor that was upon Joseph. Through Potiphar’s wife, Satan was looking for a way to steal the graces that Joseph carried within him.
The glorious destiny of Joseph was linked to the divine wisdom and the royal anointing that God had placed in him.
This anointing even manifested itself in prison since he found favor in the eyes of the head of the prison, who placed under his surveillance all the prisoners locked up with him. Each time Joseph found himself in a place, a particular grace raised him above all those who were around him. It was this same grace that made him a governor in Egypt.
Fortunately for him, he refused to sleep with this woman even though she spoke to him every day and even fled so as not to sin against God. Sleeping with Potiphar’s wife would certainly have saved him from prison, but he would have missed out on his glorious destiny.
The Bible tells us of another biblical story that challenges us more about the need to jealously guard what we have received as grace from the Lord. This story is that of Esau, brother of Jacob, son of Isaac and Rebecca.
Genesis 27:35-36 (KJV) “Isaac said, Your brother has come with craftiness, and he has taken away your blessing. Esau said: Is it because his name was called Jacob that he supplanted me twice? He took away my birthright, my blessing. And he said, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?
Jacob means “one who deceives” or uses deceit; this same qualifier is attributed to Satan in John 10:10. Just as Satan often uses trickery to cause harm to men, so did Jacob.
By trickery, Jacob took away the birthright and the blessing that should rightfully belong to Esau. Indeed, what gave Esau the right to receive the blessing from the hands of his father, was the fact that he was the firstborn of this family, but by selling this right legally to his younger brother, he lost this right. And even the sky took notice.
This is why the Bible says in Hebrews 12:16-17 (KJV): “(See) that there is neither fornicator nor profane like Esau, who for a meal sold his birthright. You know that later, wanting to obtain the blessing, he was rejected, although he asked for it with tears, for his repentance could have no effect.
Isaac was a man rich in wealth, and his son Esau could easily own his father’s wealth, but he knew he had lost something far greater than the family inheritance. This is the reason why he wept bitterly.
The author of the book of Hebrews makes a link between this episode in the life of Esau and the consequences of fornication in order to warn us not to let ourselves be carried away by the desire to satisfy our impulses, at the risk of losing our graces.
However, you must not forget that our God is a merciful and compassionate Father, slow to anger, rich in goodness and faithfulness (Psalms 86:15).
Even if you are trapped in immorality, there is only one prayer He wishes to hear: the prayer of confession and repentance. He Himself says in Isaiah 1:18 (KJV): “…If your sins are as scarlet, they shall become white as snow; if they are red like purple, they will become like wool. Furthermore, we should all know that “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 KJV).
