Important Reasons to Thank God

Expressing our gratitude can be challenging even when we feel blessed. But what happens when we are in times of pain, suffering, or difficulty?

Here we show you 11 powerful reasons why you should thank God even in bad times.

When our world seems to be falling apart, how can we expect, as Paul tells us, to “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)?

Reasons to thank God always?

Jesus was separated from his friends, unfairly accused, brutally treated, and if ever a person had the right to complain, it was this man, who suffered so much for wrongdoing.

He died for us on the cross (God made flesh) isn’t that reason enough for you?
In addition to this great sacrifice, here are more
reasons why you should be grateful to God :

1. Because you are not alone

No Christian goes through times of trouble alone. We are not only united with Christ, we are also united with other believers through our union with Jesus.

Our Savior does not stand outside of us, simply leading the way to a better life. Rather, “we live in it and therefore for each other.”

If you are anxious or scared, in pain or in doubt, turn to the Lord and seek your brothers and sisters in Christ. Let other believers know about your problems so they can share your burdens.

2. Because God is sovereign

As Christians, we can be thankful that we are children of the sovereign Lord. Even when our lives seem out of control, we can trust that God is totally in control and that he uses difficult times to mature and complete us.

3. For the hope we have

We tend to think of hope as an emotional state that reflects what we would like to see happen in the future, but we are not sure it will actually happen.

For example, we can “hope” our broken marriage will be repaired or we can avoid financial ruin. However, despite our sincere desire, we are not sure that we will get the result we prefer.

However, in the Scriptures, hope means something completely different. Hope is a desire for a future outcome that is absolutely certain. In Romans 8:28 we are confirmed that if we love God, all things will lead us to good and beneficial things.

Because we trust God’s promises, we can be completely sure of the outcome. Since we know that God can and will do what he says, our hope is a way of knowing that hope is faith looking forward.

4. Because you have God

As we grow in gratitude, we learn to be thankful not only for the good gifts God gives us but for everything in our lives, including our trials and sufferings. We learn that even in pain we can be thankful, as we still have the greatest gift we could wish for: God Himself.

5. For life

We are always just a heartbeat away from death. Only God gives life and sustains life. Even the wicked lives through the gift of God. All life is in his hand, because “He gives life and breath to all things.” (Acts 17:25)

6. For the bible

Whether the world is bright or dark, the Word of God is always the same. Whether we are young or old, in health or in sickness, it is a refuge for the mind and the heart. Just think what the world would be like without him, and thank God for his blessed Word that “lives and abides forever.” (1 Peter 1:23)

7. For salvation

No matter what failure we have done in life, we can turn in faith to Christ and find salvation. It’s free, and it’s offered to everyone on earth, and it’s not dependent on wealth, education, good looks, friends, or influence. We should definitely be thankful that “the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.” (Titus 2:11)

God has given us the greatest gift of all: his Son, who died on the cross and was resurrected so that we can meet him personally and spend eternity with Him in heaven: “Thank God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15).

The Bible tells us that we are separated from God because we have sinned. But God loves us, he loves you, he loves me, and he wants us to be a part of his family forever.

He loves us so much that he sent his only Son into the world to die as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.

All we have to do is reach out in faith and accept Christ as our Savior and Lord: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but may he have eternal life” (John 3:16).

8. For the blessings

Even the poorest of us have some good things: some health, some friends, some food, some clothes, some sunshine. We need to emphasize these blessings more.

With the blessing of God, we can be rich even when we are poor, because “the blessing of the Lord makes rich”. (Proverbs 10:22)

It seems that we are never satisfied with what we have: rich or poor, healthy or sick. But what a difference it makes when we realize that God has given us everything we have! King David prayed, “Wealth and honor come from you. Everything comes from you” (1 Chronicles 29:12-14).

9. Because we have a land of freedom

For the land of religious freedom, we can thank God every day. Sometimes we forget what blood, toil, and sacrifice earned this freedom for us. We are used to freedom and we take it as something natural. Let’s be thankful!

10. Because of the trials and even because of the persecution

We withdraw from difficulties, but none of us is exempt from some kind of problem. In many parts of the world, it is dangerous even to be a Christian because of persecution. And yet, in the midst of those trials, we can thank God, because we know that he has promised to be with us and that he will help us. We know that our Lord can use moments of suffering to draw us closer to Him.

When the prophet Daniel learned that wicked men were plotting against him to destroy him, “he knelt down and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before” (Daniel 6:10).

The Bible commands that we give thanks to God at all times, good or bad (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Paul declared, “You will even be able to thank God in the midst of pain and anguish because you have the privilege of sharing a lot of those who live in the light” (Colossians 1:12).

11. For his continued presence and power in your life

When we come to Christ, it is not the end but the beginning of a whole new life! He is with us and wants to help us follow Him and His Word. In ourselves, we do not have the strength we need to live as God wants us to live.

But when we turn to Him, we discover that “it is God who works in us to act according to his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13). Jesus promised his disciples: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Surely I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18, 20).

Final Thoughts

I hope that these 11 reasons to thank God, have made you understand the importance of being grateful to our creator. He has given us all the things that we possess today, from life to material things.
Maybe sometimes you are going through a problem, but God is still there to help you overcome the trials.

Have you opened your heart to Jesus Christ? If not, turn to him with a simple prayer of repentance and faith, and thank him for what he has done for you.

And if you know Christ, how long has it been since you thanked God for your salvation? We should not let a day go by without giving thanks for his mercy and his grace towards us in Jesus Christ.
