What does righteousness mean?

Righteousness refers to the complete holiness of Christ. It is essential to God’s character. Literally, it means “One who is right.” It is the opposite of sin. To sin is to be against God’s plan for our lives. Therefore righteousness is the only acceptable standard for us to present before the Father. Sin is death. But righteousness is life. There is no death in it. (Proverbs 12:28)
