What is a friend?

A friend is above all someone faithful and reliable, in whom one can confide. It is a constant comfort, to which we find an attentive ear. He is ready to help and assist us in difficult times. The friend walks by our side, encourages us, exhorts us, advises us, and motivates us. Because he wants our happiness, he is not afraid to correct us when we go astray. He knows our weaknesses but does not use them against us, quite the contrary: he intercedes and prays on our behalf. Such friendships have become rare these days, because of the greed and jealousy that plague the hearts of men. This is why we should choose our friends carefully, but also make God the friend par excellence, who will never disappoint us.

9 Verses about Friendship with God

These scriptural verses below talk about friendship with God, here they come.

  • John 15:12-17
This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this than to lay down one’s life for his friends. You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. These things I command you, that you love one another.
  • Proverbs 18:24
A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
  • Proverbs 17:17
A friend loves at all times,
And a brother is born for adversity.
  • Psalm 34:4-6
I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
  • John 15:5
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
  • John 15:7
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
  • John 17:3
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
  • Psalm 34:9
Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.

Who am I to be friends with God?

Reading the title of this article, perhaps it seemed pretentious to you to aspire to become friends with God. After all, who are we sinful humans to want to establish a healthy relationship of friendship with the King of kings? However, it is not surreal to aspire to this status, because God does not show favoritism. If we study the life of the patriarch Enoch, of Abraham, or even that of Moses who was “faithful in all the house of God”, (Hebrews 3:5), we will see how these characters made the search for God their only vocation. . If these three characters were able to develop such a unique and extraordinary relationship with God, it is because it is also possible for us to reach this level of intimacy.
