Spread the love

As the old saying goes, “money makes the world go round.” Whether we like it or not, financial contributions are a fundamental aspect of most religious institutions. Tithing and offerings, specifically, have been an integral part of many faiths for centuries.

The act of giving back a portion of one’s income to the church or religious organization is not only a sign of gratitude, but it also helps to support the work of the church and its members.

However, not all religious texts speak about tithing in the same way, and there are many different interpretations of what it means to give back to one’s faith. In this article, we will explore various verses from religious texts that speak about tithes and offerings, and dive into the meaning and significance behind these practices.

Bible Verses About Tithing And Offering

Let us give to God and to others with a joyful, calm, and generous heart because God takes care of us! Below are 20 good Tithes and Offerings in the Bible.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Remember this: He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully. Each one must give according to what he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under obligation, because God loves the one he gives with joy.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-7)

We are called to give generously, willingly, and joyfully. Giving like this, we will receive abundance, just like the farmer who sows a large quantity of seeds. In due time he receives his great harvest!

Malachi 3:10

Bring the entire tithe for the funds of the temple, and thus there will be food in my house. Try me on this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I don’t open the floodgates of heaven and pour out blessing on you until it overflows.

By offering and tithing we affirm that we trust that God will continue to provide for our needs. And it is so because God promises to pour out blessings on those who offer and tithe for love of him.

Proverbs 11:24

Some give with full hands, and receive more than they give; others do not even pay their debts, and end up in misery.

God’s mathematics is quite different from that of humans. With God, the one who gives the most, he is the one who receives the most.

Mark 12:41-44

Jesus sat in front of the place where the offerings were deposited, and he was watching how the people put their coins in the temple boxes. Many rich people put in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two little coins of very little value.
Jesus called his disciples and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. These gave from what was left over; but she, out of her poverty, threw in everything she had, all her livelihood ».

Jesus exalted the widow’s offering because she gave everything she had, all her livelihood. That was a step of obedience and faith. The others gave what was left over, perhaps just out of habit. The widow gave sacrificially and she did not go unnoticed in the eyes of God.

1 Corinthians 16:2a

On the first day of the week, each of you set aside and put away some money according to your income…

Leviticus 27:30

The tithe of all produce of the field, be it grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord, since it is consecrated to him.

Luke 6:38

Give, and it will be given to you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure that you measure others, it will be measured to you.”

Luke 16:10

He who is honest in little will also be honest in much; and he who is not upright in a little will not be upright in much either.
(Luke 16:10)

Luke 16:11-12

Therefore, if you have not been honest in the use of worldly wealth, who will trust you with the real ones? And if you have not been honest with what belongs to others, who will give you what belongs to you?

Proverbs 3:9-10

Honor the Lord with your riches and with the first fruits of your crops. So your barns will be filled to bursting and your cellars will overflow with new wine.

Acts 20:35

With my example I have shown them that it is necessary to work hard to help those in need, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus: “There is more happiness in giving than in receiving”.

Ephesians 5:2

Therefore, imitate God, as beloved children, and lead a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Deuteronomy 12:17-18

You will not be able to eat in your cities the tithe of your wheat, your wine or your oil, nor the firstborn of your cattle and your flocks, nor what you have promised to give, nor your voluntary offerings nor your contributions. You will enjoy them in the presence of the Lord your God, in the place he chooses. So will your son and your daughter, your male and female slave, and the Levites who live in your cities, and you will rejoice before the Lord your God for the achievements of your work

Deuteronomy 14:22-23

Every year, without fail, you will set aside one-tenth of all that your fields produce. In the presence of the Lord your God you shall eat a tenth of your wheat, your wine and your oil, and of the firstborn of your herds and flocks; you will do it in the place where he decides to live. Thus you will learn to always fear the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 16:17

Each one will bring offerings, as the Lord your God has blessed him.
(Deuteronomy 16:17)

2 Chronicles 31:5

As soon as the order was given, the Israelites delivered in abundance the first fruits of wheat, wine, oil, honey, and all the produce of the field. They also gave a tithe of everything in abundance.

Nehemiah 10:37

We agreed to take to the storehouses of the temple of our God the first fruits of our milling, of our offerings, of the fruit of our trees, of our new wine and of our oil, for the priests who minister in the temple of our God. We also agreed to give a tenth of our crops to the Levites, since they are the ones who collect all this in the towns where we work.

Psalm 20:1-3

May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary; may he give you his support from Zion. May he remember all your offerings; that accepts your holocausts.

Amos 4:5

Matthew 5:23-24

Therefore, if you are presenting your offering at the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there in front of the altar. Go first and be reconciled to your brother; then he comes back and presents your offering.

Matthew 6:19-21

Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in to steal. Rather, lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moths nor rust eat away, nor thieves break in to steal. Because where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.
