Spread the love

Making commitments to God in order to obtain his blessings reveals trust, faith, and love for our Heavenly Father. Only in this way will we be demonstrating our willingness to do God’s will and fulfill the purpose that he has in our lives.

Making commitments to God

We believers must make a true commitment to the Lord. It is not just about reading the word, it is about fulfilling the Lord’s will, bringing the message of salvation to every creature, rescuing lost souls, and proclaiming the good news to all nations.

Many times we do not love him because we do not know him and we do not have that interest in reading the Bible, but when reading his word we should be completely in love or fall in love during that journey, learning what he does and has done for us.

Today we find ourselves immersed in routine, and we make commitments at work, with people, and in studies. But we forget to make true commitments to God, who is the one who provides us with everything we need.

At what point does our commitment to God begin?

The commitment we have with God begins when we confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is our only and true Savior:   “In him you also, having heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and having believed in him, were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians: 1:13)

In this way, the moment we receive and accept Jesus Christ as our only and true savior, we are receiving his Holy Spirit, which manifests itself in every aspect of our lives. Therefore, from that moment we must commit ourselves wholeheartedly to God and do his will.

To the extent that we serve God, we will be obtaining superabundant blessings. But many believers want to serve the Lord from his own point of view, and they want to have many disciples who follow him.

However, they are not willing to pay the price or dedicate their time to God. To get results we must make a real commitment.

Things cannot fall from the sky, we have to make an effort and look for more of them every day.

In the bible, we can find great biblical characters who had a real commitment to the Lord, such as Abraham, Moses, Paul, and David, among others.

In them, we can see the intimate relationship they managed to build with God, who directed them in each of his decisions.

These men had to go through difficult times, they had to pay the price. But God never forsook them.

What is the main commitment we have with God?

The commitment we have with God is personal because when we accept Christ from the heart, the Holy Spirit begins to work in our lives. For this reason, it is important to maintain a close relationship with the Lord and make a true commitment, which consists of:

1. Make your word known

As children of God, our main commitment before him is to preach the word to every creature, proclaim the good news, witness the wonders that the Lord does with his people, as his word demands:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8)

This quote is a sample of his purpose in our lives, since he wants us to be witnesses of his power in all nations, and proclaim the message of salvation.

2. Confess your name

To make a genuine commitment, we must confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord. We must recognize him as our only and true God before men, to find grace before his eyes. As the word demands:

“I tell you that whoever confesses me before men, the Son of Man will also confess him before the angels of God; but whoever denies me before men, he will be denied before the angels of God” (Luke 12:8-9).

3. Give a good testimony

As believers, we must, first of all, give a good witness in all areas of our lives, not only when we are in church, but at all times, at home, with our family, at work, study center, with our friends. As the word exhorts us:

“As for the past way of life, put off the old man, which is vitiated according to deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, created according to God in righteousness and holiness of truth ” (Ephesians 4:22-24)

How to renew commitment to God

Circumcision was previously practiced as a sign of purity and commitment to God. It symbolized an indelible mark of the purity expected of the people of Israel.

At present, this practice is no longer common because there is no longer circumcision of the flesh but now it is the circumcision of the heart: “but he is a Jew who is one on the inside, and circumcision is that of the heart, in spirit, not in the letter; whose praise does not come from men, but from God” (Romans 2:29).

This circumcision of the heart corresponds to thought and emotion. It refers to the internal part of the person, where we must make a real commitment before God to leave carnal desires behind, as the word expresses:

“As for the old way of life, put off the old man, which is corrupted according to deceitful desires” (Ephesians 4:22)

In this sense, we must reflect on the renewal of our commitment and relationship with God, because even though we are children of the Lord, we have a new life in Christ, we have been baptized and have repented, we still have things in this world that we must eliminate from our life, making a new commitment to God, renewing our pact with him, in order to completely leave behind everything that ties us to this world.

In this way it is necessary that we cleanse ourselves of all filth, renew our commitment to God and begin to walk in the ways of the Lord righteously because if we do not clean our clothes, we will not be able to reach the kingdom of heaven, as indicated by the word:

“Pedro replied: You will never wash my feet! Jesus replied: If I do not wash you, you have no part with me” (John 13:8).

In this sense, we must be completely renewed and leave our past life, and put earthly things aside. In the same way, we must serve the Lord, and to do so we must serve our neighbor in order to please him.

Just as Jesus did when he came to this world, where Jesus, being God himself, stooped down to wash the feet of his disciples. Jesus Christ came to serve and set the example of what we should do.

How God calls us to make a real commitment

To answer this question and investigate the subject, we must review the Holy Scriptures, in which Joshua highlights to the people the fact that they are enjoying themselves without having earned it with work and eating what they had not worked for, and living in the place where they had not built, but the process of conquest and sustenance continued. As can be seen in the following biblical passage:

“And I gave you the land for which you did not work, and the cities that you did not build, in which you dwell; and of the vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant, you eat. Now, therefore, fear the Lord, and serve him with sincerity and in truth; and put away from among you the gods whom your fathers served on the other side of the river, and in Egypt; and serve the Lord” (Joshua: 24:13-14)

Joshua was a man of faith and committed to the Lord. However, he wanted his people to have the same disposition and be able to serve only him, stopping idolizing other gods and doing God’s will.

In this sense, Joshua was ready to pass into the presence of God, but he wanted to realize the real commitment of the heart of his people. At present, in the same way, that, like Joshua, the church, the people of Christ, is in the times, in which, we will be raptured. But our garments must be without stains or wrinkles.

In the book of Matthew 24, Jesus Christ spoke to his disciples about the end times and told them that it would be like in the time of Noah, and today, we are living, in similar times in which people do not want to commit to God.

“Many will stumble then, and will betray one another, and will hate one another. And many false prophets will arise, and will deceive many; and because wickedness has multiplied, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 24:10-13)

This quote is clear, it tells us about the commitment that we must establish with God to achieve salvation, since if we persevere in his paths that are straight, we will be able to enter the kingdom of heaven, defeating the enemy.

But if, on the contrary, we let the enemy take part in our lives, our hearts can grow cold and we can fall into false doctrines that will deceive us if we do not do God’s will.

In this sense, to make a true commitment to the Lord, we must offer him a life of holiness and a willingness to serve. In this way, God guarantees us a life full of victories and fruits.

However, adversity will always exist but the Lord will not leave us in those difficult times. He will comfort us at all times to bear the burdens of life, but we must trust him and his work.

On the other hand, one of the principles that we must consider is the fear of God, since everything we do must be to fulfill his will, which is written in his word.

Today we can see that many people, including believers, make decisions without consulting God, and that is why we can see so many failures, separations, and dismissals, among others.

But if, on the contrary, we consult with him, maintain a close relationship, read the word, pray, fast, adore him and praise him from the heart, he will work in every aspect of our lives, whether at work, at home, in our friendships, among others.

How we recognize our real commitment to God

When we are truly committed to the Lord, we fear him, respect him, exalt him, worship him, and give him alone all the glory and honor. We do absolutely nothing without first consulting the Lord, we do not boast of the wonders he does because we know that all honor is for him.

We recognize his majesty and we know that without him, we can do nothing, we are certain that our life belongs to him and that he is in control of all things. Therefore, in the midst of adversity, we have peace, the peace that only God can offer, the peace that surpasses all human reason. That inner peace that makes us rest in his presence.

Jesus Christ when he came to this earth showed us what a true commitment to God is, where we must lose our own life to gain the kingdom of heaven. It is not about abandoning our family, but about doing Heavenly Father’s will.

Each believer has a purpose, which must be followed to achieve salvation and obtain victories and blessings. Each purpose is personal and depends on the relationship each person has with the Lord. In this regard Jesus Christ exhorts us in the following way:

“And Jesus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).

In this quote, Jesus Christ reminds us that we have a commitment to God, and we cannot follow it if we do not leave the past life behind if we do not discard the desires of the flesh. This is not entirely easy but when you accept the Lord Jesus as your only and true savior, the Holy Spirit will anoint you and help you at all times if you seek him from your heart.
