    luke 10:18 meaning

“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven,” Jesus says in Luke 10:18. The return of the 70 disciples that Jesus had sent out to evangelize and prepare His route to Jerusalem in the context of these comments.
When the 70 come back to report, they are overjoyed and a little taken aback because “even the devils bow to us in your name” (verse 17). The first thing Jesus says in response is, “I saw Satan descend from heaven like lightning”.

We will be giving a detailed explanation of the entire Luke 10 chapter beginning from vs. 1.

    luke 10:1-16 explanation

In luke 10: 1-16 Christ sent the seventy disciples, two by two, so that they can strengthen and encourage one another. The gospel ministry calls men to receive Christ as Prince and Savior; and that he will come in the power of his Spirit to all the places where he sends his faithful servants. But the fate of those who receive God’s grace in vain will be very fearful.
Those who despise the faithful ministers of Christ, who think of them, and look with contempt on them, will be counted as haters of God and of Christ.

    luke 10:17-24 explanation

10: 17-24 All our victories over Satan, we get the power derived from Jesus Christ, and we should have all the praise. But let us beware of spiritual pride, which has been the destruction of many.
Our Lord rejoiced at the prospect of the salvation of many souls. It was convenient that the particular notice should be taken into account that the hour of joy; Very few were made, because he was a man of sorrows: in that hour in which he saw Satan fall, and learned of the good success of his ministers, in that hour he rejoiced. He has always resisted the proud and given grace to the humble.
The simpler way we are dependent on the teaching, help, and blessing of the Son of God, the more we will know both the Father and the Son; the more blessed you will be to see the glory, and hear the words of the Divine Savior; and the most useful that you will do in furthering his cause.

    luke 10:25-37 explanation

If we speak of eternal life, and the way to it, in a careless way, we take God’s name in vain. No one is going to love God and neighbor with any measure of pure and spiritual love, which does not take part in the grace of converting.
But the pride of the heart of man works hard against these convictions. Christ gave an example of a poor Jew in distress, relieved by a Good Samaritan.
This poor man fell into the hands of thieves, who left him close to death from his wounds. He was despised by those who should have been his friends, and was cared for by a stranger, a Samaritan, from the nation that the Jews most despised and detested, and were not dealt with.
It is regrettable to observe how selfishness governs all ranks; how many excuses men will make to avoid trouble or spending on the relief of others. But the true Christian has the law of love written in his heart. The Spirit of Christ dwells in him; The image of Christ is renewed in his soul.

The parable is a beautiful explanation of the law of loving our neighbor as ourselves, regardless of nation, party, or any other distinction
    .
It also establishes the goodness and love of God our Savior towards sinful, miserable men. We were like this poor traveler in distress. Satan, our enemy, has robbed us, and wounded us: such is the sin the evil he has done us.
Blessed Jesus had compassion on us. The believer considers that Jesus loved him and gave his life for him, as an enemy and a rebel; and having shown him mercy, he orders him to go and do the same. It is the duty of all of us, in our places, and in accordance with our ability, to succor, aid, and relieves all who are in danger and need.

    luke 10:38-42 explanation

10: 38-42 A good sermon is not the worst to be preached in a home, and the visits of our friends should be managed, so that they are in turn for the good of their souls.
Sitting at the feet of Christ, means readiness to receive his word, and submission to the direction of it.
Martha was providing for the entertainment of Christ, and those who came with him. There was respect for our Lord Jesus and the correct care of his domestic affairs. But there was something to blame.
She was for many chores; plenty, variety, and accuracy. Worldly business is a trap for us, when we are prevented from serving God, and reaching our souls well.
How much time is needed is wasted, and often designed spending, even on entertaining Gospel teachers!
Although Martha was defective on this occasion, yet he was a true believer, and in his general conduct, he did not neglect the only thing necessary. God’s favor is necessary for our happiness; Christ’s salvation is necessary for our security.
When that is taken care of, all other things will be rightly pursued. Christ declared: Mary has chosen the good part. For one thing, it is necessary, one thing that she has done, to renounce herself to the direction of Christ.
Men and demons cannot take it away from us, and God and Christ will not. Let us feel a single necessary thing with greater diligence.
