What is Service to God? What is your purpose in life

Spread the love

What is Service to God and What is your purpose in life? This post gives you a glance at how your service to God affects your destiny in life.

From the beginning of creation, God had a reason to create man and that purpose is to love and serve him, therefore, as Christians, one of the vital aspects of our destiny includes genuinely serving God. Service to God gives us great satisfaction, one that gives meaning to our lives.

What is service to God?

Serving means, in a sense, giving lifelike Jesus who “did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

Today, perhaps, no one asks us to give our lives physically, but is it not also giving our lives to sacrifice a little of our time or to learn to love a friend that we do not like?

The Church, that is, all the baptized, is called to “have in herself the same feelings that Christ Jesus had” (Philippians 2: 5). In Jesus, we have the figure of the faithful servant, capable of making his life a gift of love to God and to his brothers.

“I have given you an example because, as I have done, so have you.” (John 13:15): we too are called to make our lives a masterpiece of love, because love (true love) is the meaning of everything.

And love is also a concrete service, thought, done with muscles and not just with pretty words.

We were created differently and for a unique purpose, tailor-made for each individual. You have to search your heart sincerely to know and follow the predestined part of God for you and not just go with the crowd.

Blessed are the poor in spirit

What is your purpose?

What has God called me to be or to do in the body of Christ? Am I where he wants me to be? Am I doing what he has intended for me? These are all questions that you have to honestly answer, because as different as we are, so are our abilities, interests, talents, gifts, and personality; each one perfect and beautiful, all destined for a purpose to be used for his glory.

By having a clear understanding of this, you enter fully into who you are and can discover God’s will for your life. (Ephesians 1: 6) To the praise of his glorious grace that he has freely given us; the one he loves. We have been made acceptable in the body of Christ, God’s love for you is unconditional, there is nothing you can do to make me love you more or less.

What really pleases God is a life of love, service, and praise; we are called to a life of goodness and total submission to God. Your service to God is exemplified by your actions in your family, community, and workplace. Serving God should not be done out of recognition or praise; It shouldn’t be selfish not because you want something from him in return. Serve selflessly, seek your kingdom and anything else will be added.

For instance,

You go to a store to buy a cup for the sole purpose of drinking with it; When you get home, you notice that there is a large hole in the bottom of the cup. Do you keep the cup and wash it every day even if you don’t use it or do you buy a new one that serves its purpose?

I think I already know what you will do – you will probably buy a new mug and make sure it stays clean after each use, the mug doesn’t remind you to wash it, you just do it. The same applies to us, when you are fulfilling your purpose, God takes care of you and everything that concerns you.

Let us walk unanimously bringing our different gifts and strengths, bringing them together as a force to build the church that is the body of Christ. Let’s not just have a lot to live for serving God from the bottom of our hearts, finding out what you like to do, what God has deposited in you, and use it for the glory of his holy name.

Within the Church, there is also a particular form of service, the liturgical one. It has some particular aspects that must be clarified so that this service is a signal for others:

 Spirit of service:

If we go through the pages of the Gospels we realize that everything Jesus does is impregnated with love, a concrete example of service we see when he washes the disciples’ feet (John 13, 1-17).

This spirit of service is availability, generosity, the ability to love others, which are a reflection of God’s love for me. God is love (1 John 4:16): we are then called to live life at the rhythm of God, certain that there is more joy in giving than in receiving (Acts 20:35).

If the style is that of love, then the first place is not quantity but quality. It is not what is done or not done, but the spirit with which it is done. It does not matter what role you play, but the certainty that nothing is small of what you do for love.

If there is this spirit of service, then it does not expire in exhibitionism, but there is a certainty that even the mere presence is a sign for others. A sign that says joy, perhaps, or the ability to give something, even a little bit of your time.

If we all live in this spirit of loving service, then we will compete in respect for others and we will know that each of us is the note of a great melody that God is writing in history.

A note out of tune ruins the melody and doesn’t show the beauty of the note itself. It is up to us then to live to the rhythm of the gifts. Finally, living this style means that you have at least a little experience of who God isa God who cares about everything.
