What does it mean to have a Diamond heart according to the bible

Spread the love

A Diamond Heart according to the bible refers to the state of man’s heart and its hardness.
This is manifested when the ear is not given to the words of God, rejecting his authority and disobeying his will.

At present we can observe that society is immersed in enormous chaos where disorder and hardness of heart reign that refuse to listen and obey the voice of God.

That is why we can see unjust and endless wars that are waged in the name of peace, we can also observe cruel and inhuman treatment towards human beings, abuse towards the most vulnerable.
We also see greed, crime, evil, among many other things.

What does a Diamond heart mean according to the bible

To deepen this issue it is necessary to inquire into the meaning of the term “diamond”, it comes from the ancient Greek that denotes unalterable and invincible.

This diamond is formed from different complex combinations of carbon atoms resulting, through a tedious length, the so precious mineral. This diamond has a myriad of physical characteristics, among which its hardness stands out. Diamond is one of the hardest materials out there.

When we see the diamond in the light of the word of God, it is compared with the heart of the people, this is similar to the diamonds, since on the one hand it can radiate beauty, but it can also be very hard.

In the Holy Scriptures, it can be observed that the diamond is compared to the heart when it hardens and leaves aside the spiritual principles and the commandments of the Lord, as observed in the book of Zechariah 7:12:

“And they set their hearts like a diamond, so that they would not hear the law and the words that Jehovah of armies sent by his Spirit, through the first prophets; therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts ” (Zechariah 7:12)

The contrast that the prophet made in this biblical quote was that the people had heard that the Lord commanded them to do what was right in his eyes, to make judgments according to the truth, to show mercy and to be charitable to their neighbor; not to subjugate widows, orphans, poor or foreigners.

The Lord asked them not to have bad feelings against their neighbor, but as we have read, the people did not want to pay attention, and on the contrary they hardened their hearts like a diamond.

This hardness of heart is revealed when God’s words are ignored and divine demands are ignored. So the heart of man has been hardened like a diamond when he turns his back on the Lord as if he were our enemy and wanted our evil.

But it is precisely this distancing from the Lord that leads us to chaos and disaster in our lives because, as the word says: “everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin” (John 8:34).

In this way, people think that they are free when they move away from Christ and his commandments, but it turns out to be the opposite because he who is without God, is a slave to his sin and is tied to the things of the world that will lead him to its total undoing.

For this reason it is important that there be a change in people’s lives, but it cannot come from outside, from the outside, from what is seen, from actions.

The true change is one that comes from an internal transformation, of the heart, and this change cannot be done by a human being, only the Lord can do it, as the word indicates: “I will tear your heart of stone out of your body and I will give a heart of flesh ” (Ezekiel 36:26).

In this sense, the Lord has the power to take away that heart of stone and diamond that we have and put a new heart in the image and likeness of Christ.

He provides us with the freedom and life that God grants to everyone who is tired of slavery and living as a slave: “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free ” (John 8:31, 32). Jesus Said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me ‘ (John 14: 6). Jesus told Nicodemus: “… Unless he is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3: 3).

This new birth, this change of heart, this inner transformation occurs because God gives new life to everyone who believes that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, believing not only externally, but also giving him full confidence in the death of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, for the salvation of everyone who believes in Him.

Consequences for a Hardened Heart – Biblical Examples

In the Sacred Scriptures we can find different significant examples to address the issue related to what it means to have a diamond heart, a heart hardened to listen to the voice of God and to obey him.

They were appointed by Jehovah of armies to speak words of repentance to this people. In this regard, the people of Israel had the opportunity to listen to different men that the Lord raised up in biblical times.

These prophets of the Lord were the ones who were in charge of revealing his word so that the people would be subject and also see the power of God in all its splendor.

These servants of God, proclaimed the words of The Law, and made them know that if they obeyed God’s voice, they would receive his blessings all the time.

But if they did not submit and did not obey the Lord and his commands, they would get divine judgment. However, the people turned their backs on God and did not want to listen, since their hearts did not allow the Word of God to impact them.

And this was not because the word had no power, but because they were not willing to listen to it. For which his heart was hardened, and there is nothing worse than a heart closed to hearing the voice of God.

This is how the Apostle Paul points out in his letter to the Romans: “But because of your hardness and because of your unrepentant heart, you store up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and for the revelation of the just judgment of God” (Romans 2: 5).

In this way, the more the Lord’s people refused to listen to the demands of the prophets, the closer they came to the fulfillment of divine judgment. At times when we read the Bible, we think that the Lord is unjust and that he lightly condemns people.

But this is not true because our God is patient, slow to anger and great in mercy. And reveal what’s to come long before it happens to give them a chance to repent.

However, as Paul points out, this hardness of heart makes them not willing to repent for their wrongdoings, and thus they are turning away every day more from the Lord and from the purpose that he wants in each of his children, and this brings them closer to their doom. For this reason, God established a judgment to judge humanity and for a diamond heart, hardened, closed and dry, it only remains to wait for the wrath of the Lord.

So there are consequences to irreverence to the word of God and his perfect will, and these are just but firm because certainly God does not want any soul to be lost, but it is the person who decides the path they want to travel.

In the bible we can find many men, whose diamond heart brought dire consequences for having opposed the commands of God, such is the case of the pharaoh of Egypt, who flatly refused to free the people of Israel from slavery.

The book of Exodus shows us the way in which God sent Moses to free the people of Israel, where he told Moses and Aaron his brother to go before Pharaoh and tell him that he should free the people to offer sacrifice to the Lord in the desert.

But the hardened heart of Pharaoh resisted, so the power of God was present, bringing plagues and calamities to the Egyptians so that they could obey the command of the Lord.

God had already told Moses that it would not be easy to free the people because God himself would harden Pharaoh’s heart, as the Scriptures indicate:

“And the Lord said to Moses, When you return to Egypt, see that you do all the wonders that I have put into your hand before Pharaoh; but I will harden his heart, so that he will not let the people go ” (Exodus 4:21).

In this way, God revealed his signs and wonders in front of Pharaoh, but his mind was closed, and his heart did not allow him to see beyond.

So he ignored the voice of God and suffered nine overwhelming plagues, but the tenth was the most painful, since all the firstborn of the Egyptian land died, including the firstborn of Pharaoh.

But even so, Pharaoh only understood momentarily, as he let the people go, but then he tried to charge them again. In the same way he paid the consequences when he succumbed with his army in the waters of the Red Sea.

They also suffered consequences in other characters in the bible who decided to harden their hearts and not obey the voice of God. The people of Israel separated, the northern kingdom was held captive by the Assyrians, and they never returned to the promised land.

Also the southern kingdom, as Zechariah says, was dispersed with a whirlwind to different strange nations. The prophecy was manifested when Babylon drove them out.

So when we make the decision to disobey God’s commands, the consequences can be fatal. As seen in the word:

“But I scattered them with a whirlwind throughout all the nations that they did not know, and the earth was desolate after them, without whoever was or who was left; for they have turned the desirable land into a desert ” (Zechariah 7:14)

In this sense, the blessing of God can be lost when we refuse to listen to his word and do his will and to allow ourselves to be guided by his ways of justice.

Ways to increase self confidence

The impact of God’s Word

Only a hard object or of the same consistency is capable of affecting the diamond. So when there is a hard heart, closed and difficult to carve, there is only something that can break it, and this refers to the word of God.

Only the impact of the Holy Scriptures can break a cold and hard heart, only the presence of the Lord can transform it and he will give you a new heart ready to be guided by his Heavenly Father.

In this sense, the bible is more valuable than any diamond and more powerful than anything on the face of the earth. Only the word can turn us into a new creature, mold us with its mighty fire, as the word expresses it: “Is not my word like fire, says Jehovah, and like a hammer that breaks stone?” (Jeremiah 23:29).

So the word of the Lord has enough power to break any stone or diamond no matter how hard it may seem, and it can break the hardest hearts there are, because the Lord through the Bible can bend and break us, and that is why it does not exist. nothing that the word of can’t get through.

For this reason the writer of Hebrews compared the word to a double-edged sword. In this regard, he said: “Because the word of God is alive and effective, and sharper than any two-edged sword; and penetrates the soul and the spirit, the joints and the marrow, and discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no created thing that is not manifest in his presence; Rather, all things are naked and open to the eyes of him to whom we must give an account ” (Hebrews 4: 12,13)

In this passage it is clear what the word of God implies and the impact it has on our lives because through it we receive exhortation, discernment, clarity. This word is capable of breaking the hardest hearts and turning them to Christ for the Glory and honor of his name.

The diamond heart as discussed above is one that refuses to accept the voice of God. He is closed and hardened, and does not want to obey God or do his will.

This can have dire consequences for people who close their hearts to God. Therefore, it is important to know the tools to be able to break this hard heart that does not accept the will of the father. These are as follows:

1. The seed of faith

To implant this seed of faith and break hard hearts it is necessary to listen to the word of God, since it enters by hearing and hearing the word. However, the Bible teaches us in the book of Hebrews that the ancients did not benefit from hearing the voice of God because they did not have faith:

“Because the good news has been announced to us as well as to them; but they did not benefit from hearing the word, because it was not accompanied by faith in those who heard it “ (Hebrews 4: 2)

In this way, to soften hearts, one must believe from the heart in what God teaches us in his word, that is, have faith that it is real so that the Holy Spirit can work in the life of that person and convict them. , so that they can repent of their sins and accept Christ as their only true Savior.
