It’s okay, it will get better This too shall pass …” While encouraging words are great when you’re in trouble, many people believe that popular phrases from history come straight from God. It’s not always true. It’s not always true that “This too shall pass.” Vielleicht some of you are looking now. What we can find in our search through the Word are the many things God has to say about our sufferings and difficult times. They are something that we all have to face at some point in our lives, and many may be there right now.
The good news is that God will never leave us to take care of ourselves during difficult times. He promises to be there for us in every situation. His whole heart surrounds us with peace and comfort, giving us the strength and hope to persevere.

This promise is a promise that we, as believers in Christ can keep. Through Him, we have an eternal destiny. God will not waste any pain that we might experience in this life. He will make it right. Every battle. Every difficult place. Every dark moment. Every storm. He will not allow us to go through any kind of deep struggle without giving us greater hope and purpose for our lives and our place in the world.
When we are in Christ, every mark of darkness will be redeemed. We will overcome every crushing trial so that we can live in freedom. This is what He excels at. Every day, every broken moment, He brings beauty, strength, and hopes to all that is involved. Our past does not define us. We will not be defined by the trial. God warns us that there will be troubles in the world. We can expect it. But He has already overcome it all. He is already victorious. That same power is available to us today, giving us strength and courage that will allow us to overcome and persevere. Only through Him can true and lasting peace be found in the world.
It is possible to find it anywhere, be it in money, possessions, popularity, success, or even with other people. These things won’t last and they are not meant to help us get through the worst times. Only Christ can give us the power and peace we need to overcome the most difficult times.
3. Christ is our comfort and we can comfort others.
“Who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ,” 2 Corinthians 1:4-5.
We can’t help someone who is suffering or has experienced hardship in their life. Only through our own suffering, grief, and hardship can we gain a better understanding of the lives of others. It is a great comfort to know that God will help us through what we have been through, regardless of how difficult.
Christ suffered and was tempted by ” all things” so we can rest assured that He is fully aware of all we go through in this life. The world can seem dark and difficult. We need people who will be open to suffering and offer grace and compassion. In a society where material wealth, easy living, and self-indulgent ways are all common, this is not always easy. However, using our own hardships to help someone else is one of the best ways to make a difference in this world for Christ.
4. Through suffering, we learn more perseverance, strength, endurance, and resilience.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance,” James 1:2-3.
Nobody wishes for hardship in their lives. Nobody asks for pain or suffering. Nobody wants to be swept away by the torrents of rejection, pain, and hurt or to struggle to find their way through the fog of doubt and confusion. But if you’ve lived enough, you know this is part of life. Perhaps that’s why God repeatedly reminds us in His Word that trials are part of our journey. It is what makes us stronger and gives us endurance. It also builds our faith.
God’s word teaches us to find joy in every situation, knowing that He will bring greater perseverance to us despite all the difficulties. Living an “easy” lifestyle will not make you stronger or more spiritually savvier. Walking through difficult times can help us grow in faith. Each of the biblical heroes who walked through the pages of Scripture was tested and strengthened not through easy, simple times but through difficult times. This should be a reminder that God is in control and will test our faith to give us strength. It is for greater purposes than we might realize.
5. Suffering reminds us of where joy and lasting hope can be found.
“Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing…” 1 Peter 4:12-13.
God commands us to not be surprised by the difficulties we face but to ” continue to rejoice.” I have had to do that many times, even recently.

It is a choice. It can be very difficult when you are dealing with great loss, suffering, or the pressures of life. It’s the only way you can live without any limitations. We are fighting back against the enemy ground when we choose to be joyful, and not be thankful “for” the difficult times but “in” them.
The devil would rather defeat us in despair than stop us from moving forward. It’s powerful and transformative when we choose to not let our feelings and circumstances get in the way. We know this: Christ suffered a lot for us, and we can share in his sufferings, remembering that we are victorious through him. This is why we must continue to look forward with hope and joy for the days ahead.
6. His power works in us.
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed,” 2 Corinthians 4:7-9.
The most amazing reminder of God’s loving and constant care for us is that He has given us the spirit of his presence. He is always with us. He never forgets, even though we might think so. He fights for our safety. He carries us. He strengthens us. He is our shield. He protects us. He guides us. We may not be aware of his amazing ways even in our most desperate times.
God is there for you, even if you are in pain right now. He can see the pain you have carried and he will give you the security and peace of his presence rising within you. Never feel that you have to confront problems on your own. We have this treasure within us as believers and we won’t be crushed. That power can be held over us no matter how much suffering we go through. Jesus is greater than any suffering we may endure if we are a part of Him.
7. We will emerge as gold when it passes.
“But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold,” Job 23:10.
The darkest places are often the most beautiful. This is how diamonds are made; this is how gold is formed. We are born with an inexhaustible beauty that will last for many years, thanks to the heat and pressure of difficult circumstances. We will emerge as true, tested, proven, and reliable. We are just passing through, but God knows our path. We are not meant to remain stuck in our trials or pain. He reminds us that we will get out on the other side. We will never be the same, but we will be transformed for the better, stronger, and more beautiful from the inside.
The person who walks out of the place where great suffering is experienced will be different from the one who entered it. It is possible to be sure that God’s work in us is not for harm but to strengthen, to build deeper character, faith, and to make us ” gold” and leave lasting impressions for His glory.
