The Holy Spirit: Everything you should know about the Holy Spirit according to the Bible?

Spread the love

What and who is the Holy Spirit according to the Bible? According to the Bible, here is everything you should about the holy ghost.

Third-person of the Trinity, little known to some, poorly taught by others, the Holy Spirit remains a mystery to many of God’s born-again children. It is crucial to understand what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit and what difference His presence makes in the life of every believer born of water and the Spirit.

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Fire Of The Holy Spirit

1. The Holy Spirit is seen as the Comforter.

During the last meal with His disciples, the Lord Jesus speaks explicitly of the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus presents the Holy Spirit as the Comforter: John 14:16 (KJV) “And I will pray for the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may dwell with you forever.

In this verse, the Holy Spirit is presented as the Comforter. When we go through difficult times, if we are discouraged, when we face trials in our Christian walk, we can always count on the presence of the Holy Spirit at our side to comfort us so that we can also comfort others who would go through similar situations.

2. The Holy Spirit is seen as The Spirit of truth.

Second, the Lord Jesus presents the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth, the Spirit who leads us according to the truth. And the truth in question is quite simply the Word of God made flesh which is Jesus: John 14:6 (KJV) “Jesus said to him: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Yes, the Holy Spirit is the One who leads us according to the will of God so that we can walk in the truth and discern what pleases God and what is pleasing to Him: John 16:13 (KJV) “When the Helper will have come, the Spirit of truth, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you things to come.

3. The Holy Spirit marks her as children of God.

It is written in Romans 8:9 (KJV) “You do not live according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit if at least the Spirit of God dwells in you. If anyone doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, they don’t belong to Him. and Romans 8:14 (KJV) “for all who the Spirit of God leads are sons of God. ”

These two passages sufficiently prove that the Holy Spirit is the mark of the children of God; other biblical versions speak of the seal of God. Therefore, it is a question of maintaining our relationship with the Holy Spirit with the greatest respect. Indeed, the Holy Spirit who educates us shuns sin and all that is harmful. In this logic, the Apostle Paul reminds us in the epistle to the Ephesians not to grieve the Holy Spirit who is the mark of God on us in view of the day when He will take us with Himself ( Ephesians 4:30 ).

The Holy Spirit is available to everyone!

Contrary to what some people might think, the Holy Spirit is not the privilege of some people or some believers, and He is available to everyone. Just repent, believe, ask for it and receive it.

Acts 2:38-39 (KJV) “Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you, your children, and to those afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.

As we have just seen, the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, the One who makes us children of God. We have also seen that the Holy Spirit is available to each one of us. It is enough to believe it and to receive it, and once received, it is our duty not to sadden it by avoiding living in sin because let us remember, we are the temple of the Spirit, and we do not belong to ourselves ( 1 Corinthians 6:19 )!

What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

In Acts 1:5, Jesus speaks of two important experiences that every Christian must go through: One introduces us to the person of Jesus through repentance and the other to His power, and the common term between these two experiences is: “baptism”!

The term baptism, from the Greek “baptizo,” means: to immerse. This is why in the practice of baptism people should normally be immersed. In general, baptism requires immersion.

The two types of baptism that Jesus mentions in the Bible are water and Holy Spirit. In this article, we will rather talk about the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Before understanding the baptism of the Holy Spirit, it is first important to understand the two dimensions of the Holy Spirit in the new covenant. Indeed, we have:

  • the dimension of the Spirit of God within us happens when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, where the Spirit comes to dwell in us and helps us produce the fruit of the Spirit ( Galatians 5:22 ).
  • The Spirit’s dimension upon us is precisely what we call the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Well, then the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the ability that the Holy Spirit gives to someone to walk according to the position (anointing) received. Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we are immersed in the power of Christ ( Acts 1:8 ) for a specific mission. It is important to note that only Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit ( Matthew 3:11 ). One does not receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit several times. It is a unique experience that is characterized by the initial sign of speaking in tongues. However, we regularly experience renewals in His presence, which can be touched many times.

Manifestation of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

In light of Acts 2:1-4, it is also crucial to see the few manifestations of the baptism of the Holy Spirit; it manifests itself:

  1. On listening ( Acts 2:2 ): (the Bible says they heard a sound from heaven…) their ears were listening to God, and this shows that when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, He helps you hear God, He opens your ears to the sound of heaven. You begin to work in a new dimension of sensitivity by the power of God.
  2. Onsight ( Acts 2:3 ): (the Bible says that tongues, like tongues of fire, appeared to them…), not only that they heard a sound but they also saw a fire which appeared like a language. This is an indication that the Holy Spirit also affects your outlook spiritually.
  3. On speaking ( Acts 2:4 ): (the Bible says that they began to speak in other tongues…) speaking in tongues is also another sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit gives you the ability to speak in other tongues, which the apostle Paul describes as speaking mysteries in the Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 14:2 ).
  4. By the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 ).

How to receive it?

The last element to understand about this baptism is how to receive it. To receive this baptism:

  1. It is essential to first receive Jesus as Lord and Savior ( Acts 2:38 ); that’s what qualifies you to be equipped by the Holy Spirit.
  2. Understand that the Holy Spirit is a gift and not a reward. The difference between a gift and a reward is that to get a reward, you have to work, while for a gift, you don’t need to work. You just need to trust the One who promised you to give it to you ( Joel 2:28-29 ).
  3. The Holy Spirit does not impose himself in our lives, and He receives Himself voluntarily. If you reject Him, He will leave, but if you desire Him, He will come easily.
  4. He is received by faith. If you ask for it, believe that God will give it to you, as He says in Luke 11:9-13.

How to speak to the Holy Spirit?

30 Effective ways to worship God accordingly

“The Spirit Himself bears witness to our Spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:16 (KJV)

The Holy Spirit is one of the members of the divine council. He is the third person of the Trinity, a whole person. Each person accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior receives the Holy Spirit as a mark, a seal that confirms, guarantees, and attests His membership in the Kingdom of God. There is no Christian without the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit Himself confirms the validity of this adoption.

The Holy Spirit is a power for all Christians. God gives us His Holy Spirit to live our Christian life. Each believer unites with other believers by the Spirit to form only one body, the Body of Christ:

We have all indeed been baptized into one spirit to form one body, whether Jewish, or Greek, or free, or slave, and we have all been quenched with one Spirit.” Corinthians 12:13 (KJV)

The Holy Spirit is versatile in the life of all the children of God because He plays several roles daily: He is a power for all believers in order to preach the Kingdom of God on this earth. Announcing to His disciples the soon coming of the Holy Spirit, Jesus could say: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea, in Samaria and even to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 (KJV).

Impressions or feelings for their decisions cannot lead believers. It is the Holy Spirit who must guide and help them. For the Word of God tells us: “All who the Spirit of God leads are children of God” Romans 8:14 (KJV).

The Holy Spirit is an intercessor because in times of weakness, in difficult times, as well as in good ones, He intercedes for us through our prayers; He even interprets our sighs. He is the Spirit of truth. He teaches, searches the heart, and knows the thoughts. God, Himself works in all His children by His Holy Spirit.

And he who searches the hearts knows the mind of the Spirit because it is according to God that He intercedes for the saints. Romans 8:27 (KJV)

Without agreeing with the Father, one cannot communicate with the Holy Spirit without accepting the Son as the Lord and Savior of his life. Now, it is very important and essential that every child of God can communicate with the Holy Spirit.

So, if you want to have a good relationship with Him, for Him to dwell in you, to be in communication with Him, to have a good friend to whom you can talk, the first thing to do is to agree to give your life to Jesus. -Christ, because He dwells and dwells in all the children of God.

1. Give your life to Jesus

Give your life to Jesus to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit and to dwell in you. Be in good communication with that good friend that you can talk to and spend time with, that’s the first thing to do. When you do, you pass from death to life, from darkness to light, from slavery to freedom, and you become a child and heir of God.

“And if the Spirit of him who raised Christ Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Christ from the dead will also quicken your model bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11 (KJV)

With whom else can you have good communication except with the One who dwells in you?

2. Dedicate time to Him

The Holy Spirit dwells in every child of God, but He is more active in some than others. When you take pleasure in devoting time to Him, spending a special moment in the Word of God, reading or meditating, you give the Holy Spirit the privilege of speaking to you, teaching you, guiding you, advising you. And reveal yourself. With the Holy Spirit as teacher, guide, and ally, you can know the mysteries of the celestial Kingdom and taste the intimacy of God.

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it will be given to you. John 15:7 (KJV )

The time you spend with someone determines the value they represent in your life.

3. Be grateful

Another way you can speak to the Holy Spirit is by expressing your gratitude, your appreciation to God, through praise for His benefits to you. The Holy Spirit is the only one who can transform your adoration into a sweet-smelling perfume to carry it to the celestial throne. The Bible tells us that God is Spirit, and He sits amid praise (Psalm 22:4).

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. John 4:24 (KJV)

Worship brings the throne of God down to earth.

4. Entrust everything to God

Prayer is one of the best ways to communicate and trust in God. And the Holy Spirit is your intercessor, your daily guide. To express yourself, you don’t need to be eloquent, with long speeches to intimidate Him. Besides, He already knows everything and can interpret everything, even your sighs. As with a friend, a loving father, repent sincerely with Him.

Share with Him all your weaknesses and strengths, joys or sorrows, sadness or joys, tell Him everything you feel. He is there to help you, console you, lead you, and intercede on your behalf.

He reformulates your prayers to bring them up to the Father, He cleans them, adds or removes from the words that come from your prayers: “Likewise the Spirit also helps us in our weakness, for we do not know what to ask in our prayers. But He intercedes with inexpressible sighsRomans 8:26 (KJV).

Finally, make the Holy Spirit your best friend, someone in whom you can confide, tell everything. He is the One who can help you walk and stay in the will of God as long as you are friends with Him, as long as you can remain anchored in the Father and the Son. Never forget that someone who has the Holy Spirit of God as a best friend cannot be just anyone. To have good daily communication with Him is to have a good relationship with the heavenly Kingdom.
